雑感


前職の上司から「日本でProgram Manager探しているんだけどいい人いない？」と連絡が。他の職種ならまだしもProgram Managerとなると難しい。理由はシンプルで日本ではProgram Managerに相当する職種があまり浸透していないから。


Program Managerの仕事は"プロダクト Manager"に似ている。"プロダクト Manager"は製品そのものについてのManagementを行う（例えばCPUのSpec決めから出荷に至るまでの管理など）。だけど今はそれだけやっていては商売にありつけない。単純にいいものを作っていれば買ってもらえる時代ではないのだ。


そのCPUをどうやって使えるようにするのか、新しいPCのコンセプトにあったソリューションは何なのか、トレンドにあった技術がタイムリーに投入できるのか、などの総合判断ができる情報を提供。またそれを実現するための技術サポートを行う必要がある。コレ全体を”Program”と呼び、その”Program”がきちんと遂行できるように管理をするのがProgram Managerの仕事だ。


Program自体は会社・状況によって様々であろうが、総合的に技術を理解する能力とスケジュール通りに製品ができるように多くのエンジニアを管理する能力が問われる。その管理のスペシャリストがProgram Manager。


日本の場合にはエンジニア・リーダーがこの役目を持ちながら自分もエンジニアとしての作業を行う事が多いようで、Program Managerという役目が確立しているところはあまり見当たらない。実際外資系では日本でのProgram Manger職を求めているが、直接みあたらないのでこの手の相談を受ける事が多い。一度この職を経験しておくと食いっぱぐれしないですむかも(^。^)



かくいう私も会社設立時に一番頭を痛めたのはProgram Manager。運良くシアトルにある巨大ソフト会社でProgram Managerを長らくやっていたSpecialistを日本に召還することに成功したので本当に助かった。



ということでNVIDIAでは日本で働いてくれるProgram Managerを探しているそうです。

OEM TECHNICAL PROGRAM MANAGER

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Determine strategy and tactics for executing mobile multimedia product solutions from award to production.
  • Work closely with customer and internal teams to develop program schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Translate customer requirements into specific tasks for all functional areas and proactively capture, track and drive all issues to closure.
  • Regularly communicate the issue status to the customer and internal development & support teams.
  • Correctly represent the urgency of issues and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Work closely with the hardware and software development teams, applications engineering, and the Sales team to resolve technical and logistic issues.
  • Regularly communicate program status and key issues to management.
  • Develop a close working relationship with the customer development team and use creativity to find solutions to their issues.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years in handset, PC, PDA or related industry
  • Proven history of Project/Program Management of software and hardware products
  • Strong technical background and experience working with customers in an OEM environment
  • Strong communication skills and interaction with OEM/customers
  • Experience managing global projects and proficient in both English and Japanese
  • BS/MS Engineering or Computer Science preferred
